The Israeli Geographical Association
Information about the association
The Israeli Geographical Association is the professional association of geographers in Israel. The members of the association are engaged in all areas of human and physical geography. The Geographical Association has been working since 1959 to promote and diversify Israeli geography in Israel and around the world. The Israeli Geographic Association is a member of the International Association of Geography (IGU).
The association is a non-profit institution and it operates according to democratic principles. The association is headed by a council and a president, who are elected once every two years and constitute a supreme authority. Among the association's presidents in the past were Israel Prize laureates: Prof. David Amiran, Prof. Dov Nir, Prof. Moshe Bror and Prof. Aryeh Shachar.

Dr. Amit Birenboim
Secretary of the Association
Dr. Amit Birenbaum is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and the Human Environment at Tel Aviv University and Head of the Laboratory for Urban Vitality. His research deals with understanding the spatial human activity in the city in the contexts of health, mobility and tourism.
Prof. Nurit Alfasi
Vice President of the Association
Prof. Nurit Alfasi is an associate professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Development at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and the head of the urban planning department.
Her Researcher is in the fields of urban geography, urban planning, urban dynamics and housing.
Prof. Itzhak Omer
President of the Association
Prof. Yitzhak Omer is a full professor in the Department of Geography and the Human Environment at Tel Aviv University and head of the Laboratory for the Analysis of Urban Space. His Researcher is in the fields of human geography while concentrating on the study of the city in the following areas: spatial behavior, urban morphology, cognitive perception and representation, models and planning of movement, and dynamics of urban systems.
